ICAR 2026
The ICAR Congress annually brings together mountain rescue professionals, technical experts, medical specialists, and representatives from alpine organizations across the globe. Over the course of one week, participants will exchange knowledge, explore new technologies and engage in hands-on training and outdoor demonstrations. Their shared goal is to advance safety in mountain and remote-area rescue.
Hosted by the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service (ÖBRD), ICAR 2026 will take place from 6–11 October 2026 in Innsbruck, Austria. This city is deeply rooted in alpine culture and perfectly located in the heart of the Tyrolean Alps. With its unique blend of historic charm, vibrant outdoor spirit and direct access to mountain terrain, Innsbruck offers an ideal setting for meaningful exchange, collaboration and connection.
The Austrian Mountain Rescue Service (ÖBRD) is the largest mountain rescue organizations worldwide, with over 13,000 volunteer mountain rescuers, who respond to more than 10,000 missions per year. Operating across all alpine regions of Austria, the ÖBRD is structured into seven regional branches, which are responsible for the rescue missions, training and coordination in their respective alpine areas. These efforts are supported by a federal organization (Bundesverband), which helps the regional organizations enhance collaboration and represents the ÖBRD in national and international contexts such as ICAR.
We look forward to welcoming all participants to ICAR 2026 in Austria.
